Science on the Move: Emanuele's Ferret Brain Image Featured in the Milan Metro

We are delighted to share that an image by Emanuele Capra, a PhD student in our lab, has been selected among the winners of the Tales 2026 contest and is now on display across the Milan metro.
The image captures basal progenitors in the developing ferret brain. These cells give rise to neurons, and their striking shapes are central to our research: we have shown that the morphology of neural progenitors can strongly influence their proliferation, and with it, how the cerebral cortex grows and evolves.
It is a special feeling to see our microscopy leave the lab and travel through the city alongside thousands of commuters. Science gains meaning when it is shared, and moments like this remind us that the beauty of biology can spark curiosity well beyond the scientific community.
Congratulations Emanuele!
