Two PhD vivas in one week: congratulations to our two newest doctors, Carlotta Barelli and Emanuele Capra, who both defended their theses brilliantly!

Two PhD vivas, two new doctors!

In the last week we celebrated two PhD defences in the lab. Carlotta Barelli and Emanuele Capra both presented their work beautifully and passed with flying colors. Congratulations Dr. Barelli and Dr. Capra!

Carlotta studied how stem cell morphology relates to clinically relevant functions in brain tumors, identifying specific morphoregulators and developing a customised method for spatial transcriptomics along the way.

Emanuele studied the cell biological basis of early neural progenitor defects in Down syndrome, through which he uncovered a new mechanism contributing to the growth of the human brain.

These milestones are the result of years of curiosity, hard work and countless hours at the microscope. They are also a reminder of what makes science so rewarding: the people we grow with along the way.

We warmly thank the examiners Arianna Baggiolini,Fiona Francis, Alice Giustacchini and Francesca Coscia, for the lively and inspiring discussions.
